It is green across the board for the Philippines Football League, which will kick off the 2019 season on Saturday.
Kaya FC Iloilo will take on Green Archers United FC or the league opener at 4:00 p.m., while Ceres Negros FC and Stallion Laguna FC will contest the second game at 7:00 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
This comes after the aborted effort of previous league operator, the Philippine Premier League, to run this season's domestic league last month. Philippine Football Federation (PFF) officials reiterated their desire to have a local league this year.
"We have to continue our league because this is an aspiration for many young footballers in the country," PFF General Secretary Atty. Ed Gastanes said.
The PFL ran for two seasons from 2017 to 2018 but stopped operations after several clubs pulled out. This time, there will be seven competing clubs, namely defending champions Ceres Negros FC, Kaya FC, Philippine Air Force FC, Green Archers United, Stallions Laguna, Mendiola FC 1991, and Global Makati FC.
The seven clubs will face each other four times in a home-and-away format that will run until November 10. That will total 84 games for the season, with each club playing 24 each.
There will be two matches on Saturdays and one match on Sundays, while eight Wednesdays during the season will be selected to accommodate three matches.
All the games will be streamed via PFLTV.ph.
The complete list of team rosters and match fixtures will be released on Saturday.
