The Philippine Malditas battled Myanmar to a scoreless draw in their opening fixture of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games Women's Football tournament at the Biñan Football Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Despite an early shot on goal coming from a Philippine corner, both teams struggled to find any rhythm in the first 45 minutes. Myanmar sustained pressure in the Philippine half, but were unable to seriously test the hosts.
The second half saw a more positive Philippine team, which continued to rely on the forward play of Sarina Bolden. But the Myanmar defenders rose up to the challenge and neutralized Bolden's threat.
The best chances of the second half came from the boot of wing back Claire Lim, who threatened with her long ranged free kicks. Unfortunately for the Filipinas, they were not able to connect on any of Lim's deliveries into the Burmese box.
Myanmar struggled to create opportunities in the second half, which saw both sides cancel each other out for the entire 90 minutes.
The Philippines continues their SEA Games campaign on Friday against Malaysia at the same venue. Myanmar will take on Malaysia in the final group game on Monday. The top two teams from each group advance to the semifinals.
