Skateboarder Margielyn Didal officially sealed her stint to the Tokyo Olympics on Thursday following an official announcement from World Skate, the governing body for the sport.
Skate Pilipinas had announced Saturday morning that Didal had done enough to qualify for Tokyo and that the official announcement would come after the World Championship Finals in Rome where the young Filipina placed 16th.
"The official announcement of qualified skaters will only be released after the World Championships Finals in Rome, but Skate Pilipinas would like to be the first to announce that our very own @margielyndidal has earned a slot for the Tokyo Olympics. Congratulations Margie! Mabuhay ka Margie!" posted Skate Pilipinas on their Instagram page.
The announcement finally came through on early Thursday morning Manila time after the governing body posted the list of qualified Olympic skateboarders in its official website.
Didal is ranked 17th among women street skateboarders, according to World Skate. On Tuesday she teased her qualification with a photo tweet with the caption "OLYMPIC!!! LETS GO!!!!".
Didal joins pole vaulter EJ Obiena; gymnast Carlos Yulo; boxers Irish Magno; Eumir Marcial, Nesthy Petecio, and Carlo Paalam; weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz; rower Cris Nievarez, and; taekwondo jin Kurt Barbosa.
